Exploring the PossibilitySpace of a joint project which Roberts & Riggs can co-create, tapping into their solid experience at the bleeding edges of immersive storytelling / LBE / theatre / tech / VR / AR / XR, and embodying their shared vision of experiential design that breaks the chains of linearity and fixed narrative arcs.
project goals:
- deliver an experience
- to consumers
- free of physical boundaries
- (i.e. not LBE, but mobile)
- that breaks the trad model
- (of linear storytelling)
- and shows the window into…
models:
- darkfield experiences
- multi-track silent discos
- burning man
- america’s army (user-specific skinning)
delivery platform:
- Meta Ray-Ban smartglasses
- PRIMARY UX is POSITIONAL AUDIO
- Q: are the glasses stereo only, or 3d-positional?
- if stereo, then prototype 3d audio on:
- AirPods Pro, and
- Meta Quest 3 w/full passthrough
- software / experience will evolve
layers:
- on-device (what happens on glasses edge CPU)
- on-phone (tethered to glasses)
- cloud (our datacenters)
work smart, not hard:
- pre-process most common branches and stage the audio locally on glasses (severely reduced latency)
- use psycho-acoustic tricks to move heavy lifting from digital electronics (glasses, phone, cloud) to user’s brain (psychological projection).
graceful degradation (nice to have; not v1.0):
- handle it when WiFi / Cell signal is weak/lost.
Action:
First Steps
- next meeting
- Fri 1/31 2p-3p EST / 11a-12p PST
- brainstorm what the experience is that we want to build
- solidify it into a pitch.
- a one pager
- with basic conceptual visuals
- show me the MONEY
- identify list of potential financial partners:
- strategic corps / JV/ investors
- clients / customers
- Meta Dev Fund / VR for Good
- examine specifications of Meta Glasses
- initial research complete: READ HERE
- what is allowable on-board in terms of apps? NOTHING
- is there an app store / ecosystem? NOPE
- can we sideload? (for demo purposes) SORT OF
- what happens on phone, what happens on glasses? ALL ON PHONE
Next Steps:
- obtain pair of Meta Glasses
- download leading apps
- experience, experiment, learn
- get into Meta AR dev partner program
- install & configure toolchain
- build the “Hello World” app
- fastest possible route to code an app and pop it onto the glasses / get it running
- build a basic game
- simple simple simple
- start building the “product” (goal experience)
Go To Market
- close the funding
- build the MVP experience
- seed it with influencers / post viral videos
- get it on the app store
- market it
- iterate.
- WIN.
